Deepsea conger
The Deepsea conger (''Bassanago hirsutus'', also known as the Hairy conger〔(Common names for ''Bassanago hirsutus'' ) at www.fishbase.org.〕) is an eel in the family Congridae (conger/garden eels).〔(''Bassanago hirsutus'' ) at www.fishbase.org.〕 It was described by Peter Henry John Castle in 1960, originally under the genus ''Pseudoxenomystax''.〔Castle, P. H. J., 1960 (Nov.) (11903 ) ''Two eels of the genus Pseudoxenomystax from New Zealand waters.'' Transactions of the Royal Society of New Zealand v. 88 (pt 3): 463-472.〕 It is a marine, temperate water-dwelling eel which is known from the southwestern Pacific Ocean. It leads a benthic lifestyle and inhabits continental shelves and slopes. Males can reach a maximum total length of 100 centimetres.〔
